National Debt
The biggest problem not enough people in Washington are talking about is our national debt. For years, both Republicans and Democrats have lacked fiscal discipline, allowing our debt to balloon to over $32 trillion—almost triple what it was 10 years ago. If we continue down this path, we risk being the first generation to leave the next generation with less opportunity and a lower standard of living.
Local Experience
As Village Trustee and Budget Officer, I helped reduce debt by over 20% in just four years. My colleagues and I earned multiple debt rating upgrades while still making vital investments in the Village’s operations and infrastructure.
Support in Congress
In Congress, I have supported measures to drastically cut bloated agencies and lower government operating costs. I supported the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which cuts spending year over year for the first time in over a decade, while fully funding critical programs, including Veterans' health care and the military.
I also supported the Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023, which would have addressed the debt ceiling while reining in spending. This legislation would have capped total discretionary spending to Fiscal Year 2022 levels for Fiscal Year 2024 and limited annual growth to one percent for a decade. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats blocked this bill from reaching the President’s desk.
Future Generations
Congress has been too caught up in its current "free stuff" spending spree to realize the impact on future generations. We must act now to work toward a sustainable budget. In Congress, I will continue fighting to address our nation’s debt and ensure we leave our children in a better fiscal situation than we inherited.
